Legendary Seattle record label Sub Pop is turning 30 this year, and they’re inviting everyone to come celebrate.

On August 11 at Alki Beach, Sub Pop is throwing a free party from noon until 10 p.m. Acts will span the history of the abundantly influential label, from grunge pioneers to indie darlings to some of the most inventive new music being made.

While announcing the lineup on KEXP, Megan Jasper, Sub Pop’s executive vice president, said “30,000 people came through five years ago” when the label celebrated its 25th anniversary in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, and they’ll likely be expecting even bigger numbers on the beach this year.

Saturday’s event will have live music on four stages, and will be a “record fair-type event” that will also feature local nonprofit organizations, a family area with inflatables and live music for kids, food trucks, beer gardens, and more.

Also on the 10th will be a special comedy show at the Moore Theatre featuring the cast of “Bob’s Burgers,” including H. Jon Benjamin, Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, Larry Murphy and John Roberts. That will be a ticketed event.

Another ticketed event will be happening after the all-day concert on Saturday, when Pissed Jeans (celebrating 15 years!) will be joined by Nasti and Dreamdecay at The Crocodile.

Local scientist and painter Jill Pelto spotlights climate change in a multi-artist show at Slip Gallery

The divide between the arts and sciences is long-fostered and well-documented. From elementary school onward, children are often singled out for their penchant for math or artistic ability and guided toward classes — and later careers — that align with their right or left brain tendencies. For Jill Pelto — a local climate scientist, painter,…
