During his intensive two-day chef’s knifemaking workshops (6/15–6/16; $525) offered out of his Fire Horse Forge studio (Ballard,1415 NW 49th St.; 206.229.6008), knifemaker David Tuthill teaches students how to create their own 6-inch high-carbon steel chef knives, beginning with design basics and edge geometry and moving on to heat treating and sharpening. Or you could skip class and just order a cleaver custom-made by Tuthill; any way you slice it, these locally made blades are works of art.
