Cinerama to Reopen Anew on November 20

Our beloved 1960s-era theater will be back in business with newfangled technology aplenty

Last November, I wrote about the fancy commercial digital laser projector that Cinerama owner Paul Allen was set to have installed in his Belltown theater in early 2014, among several other renovations. The super-high-tech machine has a light output of 60,000 lumens, which translates into films with more clarity and color accuracy than ever before.

Cinerama has been closed for what seems like a gazillion years. But we’ve just gotten word that it’s finally ready to reopen. According to the Cinerama website, it will celebrate a grand reopening on Thursday, November 20 at 8 p.m. and will screen The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

Exciting stuff. Also, the theater has announced a new reserved seating feature, which enables moviegoers to choose their favorite seat in the house. Tickets for the grand fete and film are on sale here.

Cinerama, we’re glad you’re back.

And when brunches, complete with singing and dancing queens dressed in dazzling drag as you sipped mimosas, weren’t a Sunday staple.  During the 1940s and ‘50s, an era largely shaped by restrictive laws and bias…
