USA Today listed the 52 coldest cities in America and thank goodness we’re not one of ’em. Here’s what’s happening around town today:

New gun restrictions from the voter-approved I-594, including required background checks on all gun sales in Washington state, go into effect today. It seems no one is completely sure how much of an impact the tighter laws will have, and King 5 says some groups believe the state will not see much change immediately. In case you’re wondering exactly how I-594 passed, Knute Berger says to thank Republicans.

In disorderly conduct news: Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant has been charged for her role in the minimum wage demonstrations last month at Alaska Airlines headquarters. Remember, Sawant and three other protesters were arrested during the protest.

More protests and strikes: Fast-food workers in various cities around the U.S. are planning to strike today. They’re demanding a $15 minimum wage, a cause that began two years ago with the Fight for 15 campaign. KIRO News has the list of which fast-food restaurants in the area will be affected.

Lark opens tonight in its new Capitol Hill spot and according to the Puget Sound Business Journal, it’s “bigger, brighter and swankier.”

Since car thefts in Seattle have steadily increased, there’s new advice out on how to keep your vehicle safely in your possession. And the advice comes credit of a convicted criminal who used to steal cars! The Stranger has the details.
