Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes
(4/21–1/6/2019) Billed as the largest exhibit ever staged at MoPop, Universe of Super Heroes is here to save the day, with more than 300 pieces of memorabilia, including iconic costumes, props and artwork from the adventures of Doctor Strange, Captain America, Black Panther, Spider-Man and others. Don’t be surprised if you start to feel like a superhero yourself; that’s just the exhibit’s immersive soundtrack, created specifically for the exhibit by Spider-Man 2 composers Lorne Balfe and Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer, working its magic. Sera Cahoone with Zoe Muth
(4/20) For her new EP, Flora String Sessions, Seattle songwriter Sera Cahoone adapted seven songs from her acoustic rock repertoire for a string trio; the result is a natural fit for the introspective artist’s tender, heartfelt vocals. With support from Seattle’s beloved but recently reclusive alt-country queen, Zoe Muth, this evening promises to be a showcase of exceptional female voices who have a made a mark in Seattle’s folk music canon. 8 p.m. Limited number of tickets available, prices vary. Duwamish Alive
(4/21) Put on your warm and waterproof layers and get ready for a day of helping Puget Soundkeeper clean up the Duwamish River and Terminal 107 Park. During this 13th annual event, volunteers will fish trash out of the river, do some planting in the park and remove litter. Anniversary of Wild & Scenic Rivers Act
(Through 4/30) Peddler Brewing and Counterbalance Brewing teamed up with Washington Wild for the month of April to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act and the 40th anniversary of the designation of the first rivers in Washington state to be protected under this act, the Skagit River system. How do breweries celebrate such monumental anniversaries? With beer, of course! The limited edition Wild & Scenic IPA is currently on tap at both breweries until the end of the month. A dollar from each pint will go to Washington Wild to support protecting public lands and wild rivers in our state. Langston Hughes African American Film Festival
(4/19–4/22) Unlike industry- or market-specific film festivals, building and gathering community are the focus of this annual event, now in its 15th year: “We’re more of a filmmaker and audience festival,” says Karen Toering, consulting producer for the festival. That focus makes good on a core component of the festival’s mission statement—to “Cultivate Black brilliance”—and is celebrated and nurtured through screenings (of features, documentaries, shorts and experimental films), workshops, panel discussions, screenplay readings and much more.
