The top Seattle news stories you should be reading today

Need for speed: You won’t be driving 75 miles per hour on any state highways any time soon. King 5 News reports that Governor Jay Inslee “partially vetoed” House Bill 2181 yesterday, which would “have raised the speed limit on certain stretches of the state’s highways to 70 or 75 miles per hour.” The portion of the bill that remains intact will allow an investigation into how speed limit increases affect safety.

Here is how not to ask a potential date to prom: Ibrahim Ahmad, an 18-year-old student at La Center High School, attached fake explosives to his body, stood on a stage in the cafeteria during lunch and held up a sign asking his date to the dance. Why would he do such a stunt that’s obviously in poor taste? The Associated Press cites Ahmad “was just trying to go all out” with his proposal. The student faces a five-day suspension, which will cause him to miss the dance. His date must have said yes (wut), because the AP reports that the pair will “likely go on a dinner date.”

Do you drive an Audi? Do you also live in Munich? Good for you then, because you can soon get Amazon Prime deliveries right to your trunk. According to Geekwire, with Amazon’s new pilot program–in conjunction with Audi and DHL–a customer “places an order and, during checkout, indicates the approximate location of his or her car during the desired delivery window. The DHL driver is given a temporary, one-time digital access code to keylessly unlock the trunk (but not the rest of the car), puts the package in the trunk, and the vehicle is re-locked with the order inside.” The program is slated to start in Germany in May and the online retailer will eventually expand it worldwide.

In news that restores your faith in humanity: A man who lost his wife and his home in last year’s horrific Oso landslide received an incredible gift: an anonymous donor paid off his $360,000 mortgage, Kiro 7 News reports.

Go See Diné Artist Eric-Paul Riege’s Largest Show to Date at the Henry Art Gallery

With a mix of mediums, ojo|-|ólǫ́ examines questions surrounding the authenticity and ownership of Indigenous work.

It’s a phrase that’s been drilled into most of us since we were young children: When you’re visiting a gallery, please, do not touch the art. In many cases, it’s with good reason: the pieces on display are fragile, one-of-a-kind, or historic works that cannot be reproduced. It’s such an ingrained approach to the museum-going…

Things I did, saw, ate, learned, or read in the past week (or so).

Circular Thinking I am very lucky to live just a 12-minute walk away from Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park. It’s a regular destination for my weekly walks and, aside from the world-class art, has one of the city’s best views of Puget Sound. Earlier this week, I went on a wet, windy walk and discovered…
