Some animals arrive with broken bones or other medical needs. Others carry wounds that can’t be seen: fear, neglect, or trauma in need of healing. And then there are the dogs who have simply found themselves without a home because life changed for the people who loved them. At Saving Great Animals the mission has always been to find a way to say ‘yes’ to helping as many as possible.

Since 2007, the Seattle-area nonprofit has helped more than 10,000 dogs find loving homes through an extraordinary network of volunteers and foster families who open their hearts and homes to dogs in transition. Instead of a kennel, each dog experiences life in a home environment while receiving the medical care, training, and stability needed to prepare for a permanent family.

Behind every successful adoption is a team committed to doing more than simply placing dogs. Saving Great Animals believes in making matches that will last, setting up both the dogs and adopters up for success.

Before adoption, every dog is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and receives whatever medical treatment is needed, whether that’s routine care or complex surgery. Prospective adopters are supported through a trial adoption period, with guidance and training resources that help both people and pets adjust. The result is something rare in animal rescue: lasting placements and remarkably few returns.

The organization’s commitment doesn’t end when the adoption papers are signed. Saving Great Animals considers every dog part of its family for life. Years later, if an adopter faces unexpected circumstances, the organization steps in to help ensure that dog never enters the shelter system again. It’s a promise rooted in the belief that rescue isn’t just about saving a life once. It’s about protecting it forever.

That kind of commitment depends on a community that believes every dog deserves a second chance.

On September 19, 2026, Saving Great Animals will welcome supporters to The Bark Benefit at Meydenbauer Center, an evening celebrating the lives already changed while raising critical funds for the dogs still waiting. Every ticket purchased—and every dollar donated helps—provide emergency veterinary care, supports foster families, and gives another dog the opportunity to find the home they’ve been waiting for.

Not everyone can foster. Not everyone is ready to adopt. But everyone can play a part in helping a dog’s story end differently.
