For potter Mandy Shoger, home is where the hollowware is. “Incorporating something handmade into your daily routine is so special,” says Shoger, who uses stoneware clay from Washington and Oregon and hand-throws custom dinnerware in her Queen Anne studio. “I think we’ve lost that in America: using products at home created by your own community.”

For her line of Foxtail Pottery, she combines local materials with designs inspired by her international travels. Japan was her muse for the Chrysanthemum collection, which Starbucks selected as some of the first artisan wares for sale in its new Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room. Within months, the collection nearly sold out, but is still available by appointment at the Foxtail Pottery studio (cups from $30, bowls, $26, plates, $30) at Florentia Clayworks.
