Six Great Garden Stores in Seattle

Dig Nursery (Vashon Island, 19028 Vashon Hwy. SW; 206.463.5096) is a full-fledged, flora-rich nursery full of garden goodies, from plants and seeds to colorful pots and crow statuary.
Exotic flora is the focus of The Palm Room (Ballard, 5336 Ballard Ave. NW; 206.782.7256), where you can buy one of its sexy succulents or tropicals, or go for an expertly designed container (or hire its crew for a whole garden creation). Ask about monthly terrarium workshops.
Home Garden Art (Ballard, 1111 NW 85th St.; 206.779.0668) has all manner of iron garden embellishments, from a graceful metal leaf fence ($75) to a metal sunflower stake ($80), plus a petting zoo’s worth of quirky animal imagery (pigs to peacocks). All works are hand-forged by the store’s cohabitants and collaborators at Mod Studio.
As well as talented landscapers, Ragen Associates (Capitol Hill, 517 E Pike St.; 206.329.4737) has a mix of pots, whether you’re looking for handmade terra-cotta or a glazed Vietnamese container.
Always a popular loitering spot—especially in summer—Ravenna Gardens (University Village, 2600 NE University Village St.; 206.729.7388) is packed with plants, containers and Fermob furniture. Current hits: air plants ($4–$40) set inside glass orbs (starting at $9) and colorful Hover dishes ($128) from Vancouver, B.C.’s Pot Inc. It also offers a custom plant design and installation service, and, every March, 20 minutes of free design time with its designers.
Swansons Nursery (Ballard, 9701 15th Ave. NW; 206.782.2543) is flush with colorful Canadian Recycled Furniture, pots, plants and seminars, and it is always a no-fail Mother’s Day spot; just try coming late to snag a table at its Seasons Cafe.
