Must Wear Pink
Pink Carpet Project
(1/20, 7 p.m.) This Inauguration Day, Pink Carpet Project is back to support Planned Parenthood’s vital health services while also celebrating diversity and solidarity. Originated in 2012 as a spontaneous fashion show fundraiser–Susan G. Komen had broadcast its plans to defund Planned Parenthood’s breast cancer screenings–this year’s third installment is hosted by podcasters Hella Black Hella Seattle and promises a more interactive experience that will allow guests to mingle with women-owned businesses and artists such as Gather Design Company, House of Matriarch and Babeland. There will be entertainment aplenty with performances by burlesque entertainer J. Von Stratton, samba troupe Tudo Beleza and slam poetry artist Ebo Barton, as well as speakers Senator Rebecca Saldaña and Representative Noel Frame. Proceeds from ticket sales, a silent auction and drink specials will go towards financially sustaining Planned Parenthood and its role in the community. Must March

Womxn’s March on Seattle
On the day after the presidential inauguration of the most controversial public figure in recent American history, people of “all gender identities, ethnicities, ages, abilities, religions, and sexual orientations” are invited to demonstrate in support of civil rights, gender and race equality and social justice. “Womxn” is spelled with an “x,” organizers say, “to promote intersectionality in our movement,” expressing solidarity not only among genders, but race and all vulnerable and marginalized communities. The 3.6 mile route will be announced the day of the march at the event website, with participants gathering at the start point in Judkins Park in south Seattle at 10 a.m. Some sources are reporting an estimated crowd of nearly 100,000; if these numbers hold, the Seattle march will still be a fraction of what’s expected in D.C., and its goal of a million demonstrators. eventbrite.com/e/womxns-march-on-seattle-tickets-30595393646

Seattle's Drag Brunch Has History

Seattle’s Drag Brunch Has History

The city’s Sunday shows started long before the mimosas got bottomless.

There was a time not too long ago, when drag performances—now a mainstay of Seattle’s queer scene—were kept under wraps. And when brunches, complete with singing and dancing queens dressed in dazzling drag as you sipped mimosas, weren’t a Sunday staple.  During the 1940s and ‘50s, an era largely shaped by restrictive laws and bias…
