Mother’s Day Gift Guide
Shop local and give her something she’ll love.

Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 10, and the right gift really depends on the mom. Maybe she wants flowers. Maybe she wants lunch by the water. Maybe she wants something useful, pretty, or delicious. Whatever the day looks like, a little thought goes a long way. It can also be a complicated day, and if this is one you’d rather sit out, that’s fair too. But for anyone shopping for a mom, a stepmom, a grandmother, or any other beloved maternal force with opinions, here are a few ideas.

Pick up a set of dishwasher-safe chopsticks (plus a holder) from Yuzu Marché, the mom-owned Kirkland shop known for its thoughtful Japanese imports. They come in 10 pretty colors, with little grippy tips that make them easy to use and simple to assign—one for each family member, $30. Use code THANKYOUMAMA for 10% off, and order by May 3 for standard U.S. shipping in time for Mother’s Day.

Order a Mother’s Day bouquet from Marigold and Mint Botanicals in Pioneer Square ($135), or sign up for one of the shop’s floral classes and make something together instead, $150.

Pick up Catbird’s Tiniest Mama Gold Necklace from the brand’s new University Village shop, $448.

Take her to Book Larder in Fremont for Nancy Singleton Hachisu’s author talk and cooking demo for The Art and Craft of Japanese Cooking on May 14, $41.50.

Bring over a bottle of House of Smith’s new Blossom Fury riesling and call it the official wine of spring dinners on the patio, $18.

Head downtown and pick something from Mariana Velásquez’s Sur La Table collection for the mom who likes her table a little more dressed up than the rest of us manage on a Tuesday. The dishtowels are especially pretty, $39.95.

Send her some bath soaks or bombs (the Sweet Pea smells amazing) from Orange Moon Bath Co., the Bellingham bath-and-body line run by a mother-daughter team. You can use the whole thing in one go instead of breaking apart one of those giant bath bombs and hoping for the best, $26+.

Splurge on Rivelle Knits’ Ella dress, designed in Seattle and made in small batches with fair-trade, women-run artisan partners in Peru. It’s thoughtfully made and the kind of piece she’ll wear on repeat all summer long, $325.

Slip a copy of In Trees by Robert Moor, winner of the Pacific Northwest Book Award, into a gift bag for the mom who would rather talk about forests than flowers. In Trees brings readers through “the wilds of nature and the gnarls of history, exploring how trees—from the mightiest sequoia to the tiniest bonsai—can teach us to grow wise,” $30.

Treat her to cultured gelato from Hellenika Cultured Creamery at Pike Place Market (the London Fog is to die for), or keep it easy with a gift card to PCC and let her choose her own flavors. It’s completely worth building part of the day around.

Pick up a jcoco chocolate gift set for the mom who would absolutely prefer good chocolate over another mug. With flavors like black fig pistachio, orange blossom espresso, and cayenne veracruz orange, these bars sound dreamy before you even unwrap them, $47.

Grab this milky K-beauty toner at Sukoshi’s new shop at Bellevue Square for the mom who loves skincare but doesn’t want anything fussy. It’s gentle enough for everyone and leaves skin feeling smooth, $21.50.

Or, grab takeout and head to the water.
