Brace for More Rain, and Take Shelter in Poetry

As we brace for yet another few weeks of record-breaking rain, it’s time to take shelter in poetry. Offering this salve of sorts is Poetry on Buses, a community partnership (between Sound Transit, King County Metro, 4Culture, the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture and others) that invites budding and veteran poets to share their work on a new theme each year. 365 poems, one for each day of the year, were collected for this year’s theme, “Your Body of Water.” You’ll see the poems on buses, light rail and street cars all over the city starting today; with permission, we’ve re-printed this one from a young voice on the most perennial of Seattle subjects.

The Poetry on Buses launch party kicks off tonight with an all-ages event at the Moore, featuring performances by Gabriel Teodros, Native Jazz Trio and Revolver, readings in eight languages by over 30 local poets, dance by Kiana and Milvia and Hengda Dance Academy and more. 7:30 p.m., free. stgpresents.org
