Emerald City Express: Cyclists are pushing for bike lanes along 5th Avenue, says King 5 News. The plan would create a protected bike route (AKA the “Emerald Mile”) between Denny and Olive, a segment already divided by the Monorail. Opponents of the Emerald Mile worry that the route would take away from already-limited parking spots and contribute to congestion. Visit SDOT’s website to follow all streets being evaluated for protected bike routes.
Delta Expansion: Delta Airlines is adding new routes from Seattle. Boston, Pasco, and Victoria, BC will all be added to its fast-growing list of destinations, USA Today reports. Delta is also expanding service to Orlando and Bozeman. These new routes put Delta in fierce competition with Seattle-based Alaska Airlines.
Found Food Truck: A stolen Ezell’s Famous Chicken food truck was found Tuesday, says KOMO News. The truck was last seen on Saturday; when employees went to pick it up Tuesday morning, the restaurant owner noted that it was gone. Fortunately, the truck turned up in a SoDo parking lot that afternoon (sans three propane trucks and several cabinet doors). Kent and Seattle police are currently investigating the theft.
Solar Power: Seattle officials are hoping to install a solar-powered public toilet in Pioneer Square. The Seattle Times reports that the city has a $230,000 budget to purchase and install a stand-alone public toilet. Business owners who are tired of people using their bathrooms are all for the idea: “This is a long time coming,” Arundel Books owner Phil Bevis told the Times. Hopefully this goes better than the city’s last attempt at adding public toilets in Pioneer Square; authorities noted the toilets that were installed in 2003 just became havens for drug use and prostitution.
Grilled Cheese for Charity: According to King 5, the owners of the gourmet grilled cheese food truck Cheese Wizards are opening a new truck with a charitable mission. When you buy a sandwich from Cheese Wiches, open in July, proceeds will go to Seattle-area groups that help those in need. Owners-slash-brothers Bo and Tom Saxbe are parterning with Comfort Food Charities to open the truck. For more information (or to donate) visit cheesewiches.thetek.net.
