Yesterday was Selection Sunday, when the NCAA selection committee released the 68 men’s basketball teams that make up the 2015 tournament. There were surprises; there were snubs (ahem, Temple); and there were obvious choices for top seeds (Kentucky, Duke). Eastern Washington University made the cut. The school is a 13 seed and will take on Georgetown–a four seed–this Thursday. This is Easterm Washington’s first March Madness appearance since 2004. Let the madness begin. (And go Cincinnati Bearcats!)
Seattle hotel news: French designer Philippe Starck is the big name behind the latest luxury hotel that is slated to open in Seattle, The Puget Sound Business Journal reports. The 184-room SLS hotel will occupy the base of the under-construction Fifth + Columbia tower and is set to open in 2017.
We may have had the mildest winter on record, but we also just had the wettest March day yesterday after heavy rains, winds and even a little mountain snow pummeled the Puget Sound region. According to Komo News, “Seattle had 2.20″ of rain Sunday — enough to not only set the daily rainfall record for March 15 (old record: 1.20 inches), and not only make it the 2nd wettest day in March history since records have been kept at Sea-Tac Airport (1945), but it’s the wettest day in Seattle in over six years.”
Someone left threatening letters on several Magnolia residents’ car windshields and they’re still trying to figure out who the culprit might be. Kiro 7 News says the letters “called four of their neighbors scum and contained pictures and names of four residents who support the Children and Family Justice Center.”
Tempers have been flaring over on Vashon Island where there is a deep divide regarding vaccination among its residents. The island has a relatively high percentage of unvaccinated children. The Seattle Times has the full story here.
