Want to try your hand at some observational drawing? Gage Academy of Art, an independent art school that trains students in the principles of drawing, painting and sculpting, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with free pop-up events where you’ll draw a different scenic view, live model or object to your heart’s content. The ongoing summer event–known as 25 Jams–is a version of the school’s annual Drawing Jam in which it invites budding artists to draw from a live model.

Art supplies and easels are provided, so simply bring your endless creativity and then party down with live music, food truck noshes and family-friendly activities galore.

Gage Academy has programs for adults and kids, including a teen drop-in art studio and summer classes. For more information about its programs, check out gageacademy.org.

And when brunches, complete with singing and dancing queens dressed in dazzling drag as you sipped mimosas, weren’t a Sunday staple.  During the 1940s and ‘50s, an era largely shaped by restrictive laws and bias…
