Kafka’s The Trial
Ongoing (4/5–4/28) — New Century Theatre Company is staging an appropriately claustrophobic new take on Kafka’s classic, The Trial, housed (also appropriately) in Seattle’s former INS building. Audience members are categorized and “processed” as they enter, and sit in a “jury box” to watch the unsettling proceedings. Starring veteran Seattle actors Darragh Keenan and Amy Thone, the play’s spookiest aspect is its modern day relevancy.

OZEN Company Leather Trunk Show
Saturday (4/13) — Local designer Aykut Ozen will sell his rock ’n’ roll and vintage workwear-inspired jackets—handmade for men and women—at Lucky Dry Goods during Ballard Art Walk this weekend. Ozen was recognized as “best designer” EMP’s recent “Worn To Be Wild” fashion show.

David Byrd
Ongoing (4/4-5/18) — Until this month, 87-year-old New York artist David Byrd had never before shown his work in a gallery. Thanks in part to a curious neighbor, he was discovered to have amassed an impressive body of work, including intriguing landscapes (or are they dreamscapes?) and arresting portraits from his time spent as an orderly in a VA hospital. See 100 of his oil paintings at Greg Kucera Gallery—before the work disappears again, this time into private collections.

Flashdance: The Musical
Opens Tuesday (4/16–4/21) — The guilty (seriously, extremely guilty) pleasure of the season, this water-splashing, maniacal-dancing, sexy-welding Broadway show revives the tale of a passionate dancer whose greatest dream is…conforming to the rigid confines of a ballet conservatory. Nothing in this story makes sense, but if you love ’80s hits and soft-core exotic dance numbers, well, what a feeling.
