On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, you may be looking to find ways to celebrate his legacy. For some, that may mean to reflect on social justice and change while others choose to give back to the community throught volunteer work. However you decide to celebrate, we’ve compiled a list of local events to make your MLK Day even more fulfilling.
1. The 34th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration with Workshops, Rally and March
Join the Martin Luther King Celebration Committee on January 18 for an all-day event in honor of MLK Day. This year’s theme is We Have the Power to Make Change. You will be able to attend workshops on topics such as Climate Change and the Systems of Oppression or Black Lives Matter, Continued …, see numerous speakers and be a part of the annual march to the Jackson Federal building. 2. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the Seattle Children’s Museum
Are you looking to include the kids in your MLK Day festivities? The Seattle Children’s Museum is offering a whole day of activities inspired by Dr. King. The kids will have an opportunity to learn about diversity and equality through reading, story time and art activities. They’ll even have an opportunity to share their own dreams for the world. 3. The United Way of King County’s MLK Day of Service
Spend your day volunteering for United Way of King County’s MLK Day of Service and help to make your community a better place. Everyone loves a day off but why not spend it spreading compassion and service? Gather your friends and family and choose from a number of volunteer opportunities like helping to maintain senior centers or clearing blackberries from public lands.
