Portland's YOLO Colorhouse debuts a line of healthy fabrics

YOLO Colorhouse, Portland’s purveyors of pretty, nonpolluting paint, has created a new line of soft and snuggly organic fabrics just for life’s newcomers. The Sprout Collection ($36 per yard) features 100 percent organic cotton fabric boasting a 230-thread count that’s made in the U.S.A. using nontoxic, water-based inks.

Even better, YOLO teamed up with craftsperson and author Brett Bara to design complementary sewing patterns. By using Bara’s free online patterns and instructions, fabrics easily can be fashioned into anything from fitted crib sheets to embroidery-hoop wall art to throw pillows and classic curtain panels. “We wanted to give DIYers really simple patterns that weren’t intimidating,” says YOLO cofounder Virginia Young. If you’ve never sewn before, she says, these patterns will give you a reason to start.

Available online only, the fabric collection goes hand in hand with the palette of YOLO Sprout paint. “We designed it to have a design sensibility that was both whimsical and playful for children’s spaces,” Young says. “Not just your cliché colors.” Find inspiration for your kid’s room on the YOLO website, and, while you’re at it, get a free color consultation. It’s a one-stop design shop for a healthy home.
