Amenity-Rich Suncadia Offers Vacation Perks Close to Home
A woodsy paradise awaits less than two hours from Seattle.

One of seattle’s most endearing qualities is that, despite its urban density, you can feel a world away in two hours or less. A 90-minute drive east finds you in the woods at Suncadia, a family-friendly vacation community with homes for rent (or purchase) and rooms in a lodge-style hotel.
As with other planned vacation communities, once you arrive at Suncadia, there’s plenty to keep you occupied without leaving the 6,400-acre property: Winter brings an ice rink and sledding runs, and summer ushers in fly-fishing tours on the Yakima and Cle Elum rivers, golfing on three different mountain courses, canoe and stand-up paddleboard rentals at Pavilion Lake, and trekking around the property’s 40 miles of trails. Of course, there’s the serenity of the Glade Spring Spa after all of that activity.
This summer, Suncadia is debuting a second outdoor pool; the 6,493-square-foot facility will feature a toddler-designated splash space, lazy river, lap pool, whirlpool and plenty of chairs in which to soak up the Pacific Northwest sun. Most importantly, the pool will have a walk-up bar for local craft beer and wine, plus the necessary vacation frozen cocktails. Suncadia’s indoor pool and waterslides were already a huge draw—particularly amongst the kiddies.
The outdoor pool also icnludes a chilrden’s wading pool.
Stay a weekend, either in the lodge, with its woodsy interiors, or in a Northwest-chic rental house. On-site provisions, from morning coffee at Coal House Caffe to dinner at the farm-to-table Portals restaurant, are totally adequate; stay a week and you may want to explore outside dining options. The Roslyn Cafe nearby is quite charming.

Swing by the quaint Sunday farmers market in Roslyn to pick up veggies for homemade meals in your rental house. For live music on warm evenings, visit the Swiftwater Cellars (swiftwatercellars.com), located within the resort, for its summer concert series.
